Day 02 – June 06 – Wednesday

(Arrive in Frankfurt, Germany and continue flight to Athens, Greece)

We arrived in Frankfurt at 9:30 am local time - about midnight our time. So far we have been up for 19 hours. There was supposed to be a 2 ½ hour layover that stretched into a little more than 3 hours. We finally left Frankfurt at 2:00 pm for our 2 ½ hour flight to Athens, Greece. We were assigned Row 19, seats D, E and F. The flight to Athens was painless – we arrived later than originally planned because of the delay in Germany. We were greeted in Athens by our tour guide – Jayne.

The group’s luggage arrived and we all boarded a bus and headed for our hotel – the Park Hotel. As soon as the luggage was loaded and the people found their seats on the bus, the rain started. The rain was not unexpected as Shannon and I have been following the weather patterns in Greece for the past several days.

Some of the sites we saw on our trip to the Park Hotel were the Olympic Stadium, the soccer stadium, the Ministry of Defense and the Parthenon. We arrived at the Park Hotel after a 45 minute ride. As we were ready to get off the bus and unload the luggage – the rain stopped. GOD is so good. Once in the Hotel lobby, Pastor Rick Cole (our tour leader) passed out room keys and we all took our luggage to our rooms. Our group dinner was set for 8:00 (on the late side for us).

Dinner started with a traditional Greek salad. The entrée was a Greek favorite called Mousaka and dessert was a Turkish treat – a pound cake with sweet syrup. Our tablemates for dinner were Claudiu Ratiu and Monica Moldovan. I remember feeling very tired during dinner and was so looking forward to sleep.

We have been up for over 30 hours and we were all exhausted. Shortly after dinner was over, we quickly explored the hotel and headed to our rooms for some much needed sleep. One of the quirky things we learned about our Greek hotel is that the card that you swipe to enter the room has to be inserted into a slot inside the room for the lights and air conditioning to work. We didn’t know that and could not figure out why the lights and air conditioner worked for just a few minutes after we entered the room.
